LC Energy's Path to Net Zero: Overcoming Emission Challenges
LC Energy is a leading biomass fuel supplier, providing legally and sustainably sourced timber to businesses and individuals in the UK. LCE approached 5D Net Zero to help the business implement sustainability strategies with the target of becoming carbon neutral and eventually achieve net zero emissions.
After collecting LC Energy's data, the 5D team worked to reveal accurate measurements of the business's Scope 3 emissions. Scope 3 is a challenge for all businesses - we take pride in helping them decipher the stats so we can put realistic reduction goals in place. There are also high amounts of haulage as part of LC Energy's day-to-day function, an especially difficult source of emissions to reduce.
Through the 3 years of Carbon Management, LC Energy has acheived:
Through the creation of a bespoke and thorough carbon reduction plan, we've supported LC Energy in establishing a 2020 baseline and reducing their emissions year-on-year. We've helped them reduce their scope 2 emissions by 52% so far and have developed a full scope 3 report. As a growing multi-site business, we're excited to continue supporting LC Energy towards their goals of carbon neutrality and net zero.

Measuring the Carbon Footprint of a Sustainable Flower Business
The Challenge:
The flower industry is widely recognised as being unsustainable, with high carbon emissions from imports, intensive farming practices, and packaging waste.
Our client, a sustainable flower farmer, was confident they were operating with a significantly lower carbon footprint than the mainstream industry but needed accurate data to quantify and communicate their impact.
They sought a comprehensive carbon footprint assessment to measure their emissions and compare them with industry benchmarks.
The Solution:
5D Net Zero worked closely with the client to provide a clear, structured approach to measuring their carbon footprint.
We conducted a full technical operational carbon footprint assessment, covering Scopes 1, 2, and 3, and assessed land use emissions using third-party software (AgriCalc).
By applying a hybrid methodology, we calculated the carbon footprint per flower, allowing the client to compare their results with current market data.
Throughout the process, we simplified complex calculations, provided clear guidance on the data required, and ensured ongoing support.
The client received a detailed and transparent report, giving them the numbers they needed to confidently showcase their sustainability efforts. With clear insights into their emissions, they can now communicate their impact to customers and industry peers with accuracy. Our structured approach and ongoing support made the process straightforward, empowering them to use data-driven evidence to highlight the benefits of locally grown, sustainable flowers.

FAQs
To accurately assess your carbon footprint, we prioritise the spend-based method, which measures actual activities that produce emissions, making it more precise than the spend method, which estimates emissions based on financial expenditure. You’ll need to gather data such as: Electricity usage (in kWh from your bills); Employee commute distances (in miles); Gas bills for heating and other uses. We’ll guide you through this process during a 1-hour data collection call, so there’s no need to worry—we’re here to help!
