What is Carbon Offsetting?
Carbon offsetting is the reduction or removal of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases, in order to compensate for the unavoidable emissions you produce through personal or business activities.

One carbon offset credit equates to the avoidance or removal of one tonne of CO2e allowing your business to take responsibility for its emissions, through verified carbon offsetting projects.

How Carbon Offsetting Works
Greenhouse Gases mix globally in the atmosphere, therefore it does not matter where exactly they are reduced.
When you purchase a carbon offset credit, it is retired to you which you can claim towards balancing your own Greenhouse Gas emissions.
Once a carbon offset credit is retired, it is given a unique reference code this avoids double counting and ensures that no one else can make a claim with the same carbon credit.

Carbon Offset Credits
Carbon offset credits can be produced by a variety of activities that reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions or increase carbon sequestration. In most cases, these activities are undertaken as “projects.” A carbon offset project, for example, may involve:
– Renewable energy development (displacing fossil-fuel emissions from conventional power plants);
– The capture and destruction of high-potency Greenhouse Gases like methane, N2O, or HFCs; or
– Avoided deforestation (which can both avoid the emission of the carbon stored in trees, as well as absorb additional carbon as trees grow).
In many cases, carbon offset projects produce social and environmental benefits beyond just Greenhouse Gas reductions. Depending on the project, these “co-benefits” can include improvements to community employment opportunities; enhanced air or water quality; biodiversity and habitat conservation; improved energy access; and better access to community health and education services.
